ALT text and search engine listing

When editing the ALT and search engine listings, is it best to only use keywords or whole sentences with keywords sprinkled in?
Is there a such thing as over doing it, spamming?
I went through all images ALT and search engine listings but still not many clicks on the site. It’s so difficult gaining traction.

Hi @OddRebel

Well, I believe that use natural, descriptive sentences rather than keyword lists. If it sounds robotic when read aloud, you are overdoing it (keyword stuffing), which can actually hurt your rankings.

The reason you haven’t seen a traffic spike is that ALT text and meta descriptions are minor optimizations, not major growth drivers. They help Google understand your page, but to actually gain traction, you need to produce new content that answers customer questions or build backlinks to increase your site’s authority.

Hope this helps!

Content that answers questions? what does this mean exactly and how do I? I’ve never heard of that before.

Hi @OddRebel, it’s best to use natural sentences that describe the scene in the image. The description should be brief, and avoid redundancy. And as PieLab says, avoid keyword stuffing. The ALTerator app analyzes alt text for images and provides an SEO rating for the descriptions that align with SEO best practices.

Also, when updating any text on your site for SEO purposes, results are not immediate. It generally takes several weeks for the changes to start making meaningful impacts to your traffic. SEO is a long term game.

Hope that helps!

Downloaded the app. Most of my images graded 100/100, so i’m on the right track.
