Hi Shopify community,
I'm exploring building a tool for store owners who need to process lots of product images.
Current pain point: Removing backgrounds individually takes forever when you have 50+ products.
Considering: A service that processes images in batches with e-commerce optimized templates.
Questions for store owners:
1. How many product images do you edit monthly?
2. Current tool/workflow for background removal?
3. Would batch processing save meaningful time?
4. What would be reasonable pricing for 500-1000 images/month?
Not selling - pure research. Thanks for any insights!

Batch background removal could be a real time-saver for growing stores managing large catalogs. Understanding current workflows, image volumes, and pricing expectations will be key to building a tool that’s practical, efficient, and genuinely helpful for e-commerce teams.
Great initiative! Batch processing is definitely a must-have for growing catalogs. I currently manage three stores and process around 800 to 1500 product images monthly.
Tbh, I used to run automated actions in traditional photo editors or outsource it. The problem wasn’t just complex edges (like fluffy materials or clear packaging), but the tedious workflow after the background is removed.
Would batch processing save time? Absolutely, but only if done right. I actually ditched traditional software recently and just run my catalog through afree online batch editor I use. If you’d like to learn about or check out this tool, you can ask me its name.
A piece of advice if you are building this: Please make sure your tool retains the original file names (SKUs) during batch export. If a tool spits out “image_edit_1.png”, it completely ruins the Shopify CSV import process. Also, adding an auto-margin feature and a subtle, natural drop shadow option would be a killer feature so products don’t look like they are floating in the void.
For pricing, considering there are already solid free or low-cost alternatives out there doing 80% of this, if you’re targeting the 500-1000 image tier with the e-commerce features mentioned above, $15 to $20 a month is a very competitive sweet spot.
Good luck with the build! ![]()
Hey @antonio88 . Hope you are doing well.
Shopify edits around 50 to 200 images monthly, mostly manually and via Photoshop, and Remove.bg.
Batch processing is a real need, around 20$ to 50$ per month for 500 to 1000 images is a fair price.
This sounds like an amazing idea. I think a lot of Shopify merchants would need something like this, especially stores with large catalogs or frequent product uploads.
Background removal one by one can take a lot of time, and batch processing with ecommerce-ready templates would definitely be useful. If the tool can keep image quality high, support consistent sizing, and make product photos look clean for collections and ads, I think it could save merchants a lot of time.
Pricing would probably depend on accuracy, speed, and whether it includes templates, resizing, and bulk export, but the need is definitely there.
