Hi

Could somebody please tell me if this is possible and how to set it up (or point me to a help page).

If a user buys one product x, they can have one product y with 20% discount.

You can use Shopify’s built-in Buy X Get Y discounts for a simple version of this offer:

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/discounts/discount-types/buy-x-get-y

Just note that the customer must manually add the “Y” product to their cart.

Yes, this is possible, you can set it up easily using Monk
from the Shopify App Store. I am from the team behind it, so I’ll break down how to set up this type of gifting:

With Monk, you can create a conditional offer where buying one product (like Product X) automatically adds product Y in the cart and unlocks a discount on Product Y. You can choose the exact discount percentage, in your case, 20%.

The setup runs automatically once the condition is met, and no manual discount code entry is required.

Your request is absolutely possible and can be easily set up using a third-party app dedicated to Buy X Get Y offers, such as BOGOS.

You can configure the Y item to be:

  • 100% off (a free gift), or

  • 20% off, as per your request.

You might want to try a different psychological approach using Batna.
