Custom Profile
i need more information at customer profile.
gender, bithday, phone and multi choice selector.
as admin I can change them, but it would be nice the customer also can edit these information.
can anybody help me?
Hey! This is a known Shopify limitation. You can edit customer metafields from the admin but customers can’t edit them from their account page by default.
The easiest fix: check out apps like Customer Fields or Helium Customer Fields in the App Store. They let you create custom profile forms with exactly what you need (gender, birthday, phone, multi-select) and customers can edit them from their account.
Hope that helps!
Yes, this can be done. Shopify’s default customer profile is limited, but you can extend it using customer metafields or custom account forms so customers can edit things like gender, birthday, phone, and preferences themselves.
The setup depends on whether you’re using the new customer accounts or the classic version though. Which one are you currently using?
This is Vineet from Identixweb, a Shopify Development Agency.
It’s possible, but I don’t think so Shopify give this fully natively inside the customer profile page.
By default, customers can edit basic account details like name, email, and addresses. For extra fields like gender, birthday, phone, preferences, or a multi-choice selector, the usual way is to store that data in customer metafields.
Shopify metafields are meant for storing custom data on records like customers, products, and orders: You can learn more about it here: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/custom-data/metafields
Since you want the customer to edit those fields themselves, you have two options:
Use a customer account/custom field app
Apps like Helium Customer Fields can help you with this.
Build a custom customer account extension
You can go to https://community.shopify.dev/ and contact a dev on how to create a Customer Account UI extension that displays fields on the customer profile page and writes the answers back to customer metafields.
If your Shopify account is only a couple weeks old, there’s a good chance you’re already on the newer customer accounts setup since Shopify has been pushing that by default lately.
An easy way to check is:
Settings → Customer accounts
If you see options related to “New customer accounts” or login with one time codes instead of passwords, then you’re using the newer version.
The reason I asked is because customer profile customization works very differently between the two systems.
If you’re on the newer customer accounts, that explains it. Shopify currently keeps the default customer profile pretty limited there.
You can still add fields like gender, birthday, phone, and multi select options using customer metafields or account apps, but letting customers edit them directly usually requires some customization depending on the theme and account setup.
The good news is your store being new actually makes this easier to structure properly before things scale.
Are you trying to keep everything inside the native Shopify account page or are you open to using an account/profile app?
i am using the newer customer accounts.
that seems to be good for me.
can you help me finding a way to users edit their own meta data?
