I have an issue concerning my discounts (buy X to get Y) when I’m adding the product, the discount doesn’t work (the product doesn’t add automatically) and I activated automatic and get for free .

Hi. Sorry for my late reply. I hope you haven’t given up on this yet!
With Shopify’s native discount, when customers qualify for your Buy X Get Y condition, they still need to find the gift product and add it manually.
To auto-add (and auto-remove) the gifts on Shopify, here are 3 ways to do it:
- Shopify Flow. Free & easy to set up, but the gift won’t show in the cart or at checkout. It’s auto-added to new orders in your admin after the order is placed. Browse for the template “Add free (discounted 100%) item to new orders”.

Custom code (hire a developer). Works well for one simple, long-term offer, but it can conflict with other promotions and is hard to update regularly.

A third-party app. Comes with a subscription fee, but the simplest and most flexible option, especially if you run multiple offers.
To show how it works, I will take BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell app as an example, as it’s the best option to do this:
How to set up Shopify automatically add gift to cart (& automatically remove gift when the cart is no longer qualified):
- Open BOGOS app → Go to All Offers → choose a gift template
- Set your condition (e.g. Cart value → “Buy $200”, Cart quantity → “Buy 2” or Specific product → “Buy a shirt”)
- Under Select gifts, set discount to Percentage → 100% to make it free
- Under “Customer will receive,” choose Automatically all gifts. This triggers the auto-add.
*Auto-remove is on by default, so nothing extra needed there
- Publish
- To promote your offers to customers, set up BOGOS app’s built-in promotional tools like Progress bar, Announcement bar, Today offer widget, gift icon, gift thumbnail,…
