You’re definitely not the only one who’s run into this frustration. Right now, Shopify’s Customer list sorting is limited to created date, last order, total spent, etc. — but not something as simple as A → Z.
A couple of things you could try today:
1. Export & Sort in Excel/Sheets
From the Customers page, use the Export button.
Once in Excel/Sheets, you can easily sort alphabetically by first name, last name, or email.
This isn’t “live” inside Shopify, but if you’re working with larger customer lists it’s often quicker than scrolling through the admin.
It’s not alphabetical sorting, but sometimes you can get close by searching with initials/keywords.
3. Third-party CRM/Customer Apps
Tools like Customer Fields, CRM integrations (HubSpot, Klaviyo, etc.) or even lightweight apps in the Shopify App Store give you more advanced filtering and alphabetical sorting.
If managing customers at scale is a daily task, this is usually the most efficient path.
That said, I agree with you: an A–Z sort option is such a low-lift but high-value feature that it would make sense to have it native in the admin. You might want to also drop this into the Shopify Feedback board, since product managers track requests there more closely.
