I believe this is where the issue lies. Previously, I used the Google Tag script, which worked fine, but as you mentioned, it seems unsupported with the new checkout pages.
I performed a few test purchases, and the conversion tag is not firing.
I created a new Google Tag in Google Tag Manager, which provided additional code to add to the head and body of my Shopify store. However, I am hesitant to add random code without being sure it’s the right solution.
Can I use the existing Google Tag (gtag.js) or Event snippet that was working fine before? Or is this the part being phased out?
Regarding Google Tag Manager, is this the recommended solution other store owners are using? Should I proceed with adding the code snippets for the head and body sections into my store? I’m guessing it needs to go into the theme.liquid file?
In Shopify checkout, when I click on the ‘Sections’ button, I see the message:
“Customizing with app blocks is not available for this page.”
On the Thank You page, I see the option to add an App block, but only the Judge.me widget appears, with nothing related to Google Ads or custom code snippets.
For now, I’ve added the Event snippet for the Purchase conversion page under Post-purchase page > Additional scripts. However, I feel this is another guess, as this script will only work with Google Tag (gtag.js), which is no longer active.
I feel like I’m going in circles. Is there a specific guide I can follow? I found this page:
Shopify Conversion Tracking Help
However, this page just redirects to other pages:
- Google Ads instructions for creating a conversion action.
- Instructions for adding your Google tag manually on Google Ads Help.
Is it really this complicated? What are other store owners doing?
I have a Shopify store, Google Ads are performing well, and orders are coming in.
I just need the conversion tracking to work as it did before updating to the new checkout system.
