I have a store on the Basic plan. When I went to replace my old Google Analytics with the new Google Analytics 4, I installed the app, got an ID, and then when I went to “Connect Pixel” I kept getting the extremely unhelpful error message “Something went wrong. Please try again later.” Well, without knowing WHAT went wrong, there’s no way I can fix it, is there?
I tried both versions of my store URL (the “my shopify” version and my actual domain) and it couldn’t find either version… though it would be helpful if your instructions specified which version to use. I manually added the new ID to my store in Preferences. Got a message that it wasn’t valid. I manually added the Google code to my theme.liquid file. Again the unhelpful “something went wrong.” Finally I gave up, uninstalled the app and removed the Google code. I do intend to reinstall over the weekend when I have the time to play with it again, but I’m not well versed in things like scripts and wonder if I missed or misunderstood a step somewhere.
Since I don’t use Merchant Center (I sell only vintage items and most of them predate such things as barcodes) and don’t use paid advertising, Google Analytics isn’t vital to me… but it’s somewhat useful and I’d like to have it up and working.
