Migrating from WordPress/WooCommerce to Shopify involves several steps to ensure a smooth transition of your data. Here’s a general guideline for the process:
Step 1: Prepare for Migration
Backup Data: Make sure to create backups of your WordPress website, including your WooCommerce store database and all media files.
Get a Shopify Account: If you don’t have one already, sign up for a Shopify account.
Step 2: Set Up Your Shopify Store
Choose a Plan: Select a Shopify plan that suits your business needs.
Set Up Basic Store Information: Configure your store settings, including store name, address, currency, and payment gateways.
Step 3: Data Migration
Products:
Customers:
Orders:
Categories and Collections:
Images and Media:
Theme Setup:
Customizations:
Step 4: Test and Review
Check Data Accuracy: Go through your migrated data to ensure accuracy. Check products, categories, customer information, and orders.
Test Functionality: Test your new Shopify store thoroughly to make sure everything is working as expected, including product browsing, checkout, and payment processing.
Step 5: Update DNS and Go Live
Update Domain: Once you’re satisfied with your new Shopify store, update your domain’s DNS settings to point to your Shopify store.
Double-Check: Double-check all settings, payment gateways, and functionalities before announcing your new Shopify store to the public.
Step 6: Post-Migration Tasks
301 Redirects: Set up 301 redirects from your old WordPress URLs to the corresponding pages on your new Shopify store to maintain SEO ranking and avoid broken links.
Inform Customers: Notify your customers about the migration and provide any necessary instructions.
Monitor and Improve: Keep an eye on your store’s performance and continue optimizing it for better results.
Please note that the migration process might vary based on your specific situation, and it’s recommended to consult Shopify’s official documentation and support resources for the most up-to-date and accurate instructions. Also, consider seeking professional help or using migration services if you’re not comfortable with handling the migration on your own.
Thank you so much for this info! Regarding the app, it seems that MigrationPro https://app.migrationpro.io/auth/login <>
gets better reviews than the WooCommerce one. Do you know anything about this one?
I’m assuming that using the app will give me the CSV file that I will need to import to Shopify…
I have been starting by designing my home page with my trial paid theme that I plan on purchasing. I am also creating the collections that I have on my WordPress site.
I guess my next step is to import my products. I’m hoping that goes smoothly. Regarding the photos on my current product pages, are they imported over as well, or do I need to add all of the photos to the product pages manually, once the content is there? What about the ALT tags on the photos? Can ALT tags be added in Shopify?
Thank you!!
Thank you! I’m going to focus on one step at a time, as it is a bit overwhelming. My next step is getting my data from WordPress to a CSV and I’m wondering if the app, MigrationPro https://app.migrationpro.io/auth/login <>
is the best way to go… I may also be back with more questions as I proceed…
Thanks!

Hi Artzen, how much would you charge to do this? I’m looking for someone to help me migrate Wordpress to shopify and I also want to ensure it doesn’t impact SEO
Hi @Ntugaga ,
Does this work still need to be done? If yes, then you can text me personally, and we will discuss it further.
To transfer your WordPress data to Shopify, you’ll need to migrate key elements like products, customers, orders, and content. Start by exporting your WordPress data, including product details and customer information. Shopify offers several migration tools, like Lit Extension or Cart2Cart, that can help automate the process and transfer your data smoothly. After importing, check that all product details, images, and customer records are accurate. You’ll also need to set up 301 redirects from old WordPress URLs to the new Shopify URLs to preserve SEO value. Lastly, review and optimize your Shopify store before going live.
