Is this a scam? Email From Shopifysavvysquads@gmail.com

I have received this email and I am not sure if it is a scam or legit. Can anyone help please?

Hi Merchant,

This is a final reminder. The following critical issues on your website remain unresolved:

  • Unauthorized use of proprietary assets
  • Malware presence
  • Missing website sitemap
  • Hidden links causing security concerns

What We Will Do
If these issues are not fully resolved within 24 hours, we will take immediate action, including suspending your store, restricting your account, and pursuing legal action.

To avoid these consequences, reply with “Proceed With Resolution” to be connected with a Shopify Expert and address these issues without delay.

This matter is urgent. Failure to act will result in severe consequences.

Sincerely,
Shopify Compliance Team

Hi,

This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.

This email has strong red flags indicating it’s likely a scam. Here’s a breakdown of why:

Red Flags:

  • Urgent and Threatening Language:
    • Scammers often use high-pressure tactics to create a sense of panic. “Final reminder,” “critical issues,” “immediate action,” “legal action,” “severe consequences” are all classic scare tactics.
  • Vague Accusations:
    • “Unauthorized use of proprietary assets,” “malware presence,” “missing website sitemap,” “hidden links causing security concerns” are very general. A legitimate notification from Shopify would typically provide more specific details about the alleged violations.
  • Unusual Request:
    • The request to “reply with ‘Proceed With Resolution’ to be connected with a Shopify Expert” is suspicious. Shopify typically communicates through official channels within your admin panel or through verified email addresses. They would not ask you to reply with a specific phrase to initiate action.
  • Generic Sender:
    • “Shopify Compliance Team” is vague. Legitimate emails from Shopify usually come from addresses ending in “@shopify.com” and are often from specific departments.
  • Lack of Specifics:
    • A real notification about malware or copyright issues would provide information about what files or assets are involved.

Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.

Best regards,

Richard | PageFly

Hi @JNRJo

Welcome to the community. And yes that is a clear scam, disregard the content of the email but “Shopifysavvysquads” from a Gmail account is enough to delete an email like that.

You can search here for some keywords like “Shopify Compliance Team” or “Email Sam”. There are hundreds of topics with the same question.

But yes it is a scam for sure, you can make any email on Gmail and Shopify will never use Gmail.

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/privacy-and-security/account-security/phishing#recognizing-legiti…

“Shopify will only send emails from official domains such as @shopify.com, @email.shopify.com, @em.shopify.com, and @shopify-billpay.melio.com. Emails from public email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, Apple mail, or Hotmail aren’t from Shopify and should be treated as potential phishing attempts.”

So do not click any links in those emails also and just delete them.

Stay safe.

Thank you!
