Our Shopify store, and many others, have been targeted by massive traffic from Chinese bots since September. Our advertising pixels are now completely messed up and no app works properly anymore!
Shopify, what are you doing?? You need to provide a solution quickly because frustration is rising!
Good morning! My eshop is in Greece and i have also massive visitors from china now and 1 month. Everyday about 20-40 I have filtered -Human- Bot but nothing…… Chinese invasion is there which is really frustrating…
Hi there @twistero so sorry about the nuisance you’re experiencing right now. As someone mentioned in the replies already, it’s now a platform issue but rather something the whole internet is battling with bots invasions all over the place. I’m confident that the Shopify team are working and will continue to work on more cures to this problem. For the time being, I suggest that you download apps that can help serve as blockers from traffic from designated areas and countries.
the blocker apps on Shopify don’t stop anything. The Cloudflare route of creating a free account and adding country or continent blocking rules works much better. However, the bots don’t get picked up and the website traffic is getting smushed. The checkout cart doesn’t resolve on the screen. The “add” works, but you have to refresh to see it. That’s how much bot traffic there is right now.
There is a particular spot in China that I can see on the world map that is very tall, so I know the bots are coming from there. The Singapore slam gets fixed by Cloudflare as above.
I spoke with Shopify and they suggested the following In order to prevent China bots from loading and checking your site affecting your metrics “I will advise testing the third party app Blockify Fraud Filter, Blocker since it HAS A FREE PLAN that allows you to block customers from 4 different locations so you can select one to be china and prevent the bots”
I had the same problem, the geoshield tool has been working well for me so far, there are other features but I do not use them, I’ve only used for blocking the traffic, if anyone is interested, here it is: https://geoshield.exenlabs.com
Has anyone completely solved this problem? I’m talking to Shopify support, and they’re suggesting irrelevant apps that won’t keep my Meta Pixel clean, only block content.
I used Orange to Orange via Cloudflare, but Shopify doesn’t recommend it. Doing that completely cut off Chinese traffic. But I don’t know if my Meta Pixel or other pixels are negatively affected.
Could it be an app we’re using causing this? If those experiencing this problem could list the active apps in their stores, maybe we can find a common solution.
Because this seems to be a problem affecting only certain stores, not all Shopify stores.
Doubt it’s the apps causing it. I have seen a few different websites with different apps all having the same issue since September/October 2025. None in common other than shopify apps like messaging and order print.
When a Shopify-side blocking app intercepts a bot, the request has already reached Shopify’s servers. Depending on how the app implements blocking - redirect, overlay, blocked page - your pixel base code may have already initialized by that point. So these apps do limit content exposure, but they don’t reliably protect your tracking data. That’s why Shopify’s suggestion feels off for this specific concern.
Cloudflare geo-blocking works at the edge, before traffic ever reaches Shopify. That’s the meaningful difference for pixel cleanliness - if the bot request never gets through, your pixel never fires for it. It matches what networkman described: the Shopify app-based route didn’t fully solve it, but Cloudflare did.
The setup is manageable: add your domain to Cloudflare (the free plan is enough), switch your DNS to route through Cloudflare, then create a country or continent blocking rule. Their UI walks you through it. The only real trade-off is that legitimate visitors from blocked regions get cut off entirely, but that’s usually not a concern for stores that don’t sell into China.
On the shared app theory - it’s probably not that. The same issue is hitting stores with very different app configurations, and these bot waves tend to target Shopify as a platform broadly, not specific setups within it. The timing around September/October lines up with what other threads are reporting, so it’s more likely an opportunistic crawl campaign than something tied to a common dependency.
