Hey guys- I’m brand new here. I just set up a Shopify account to sell some cool merch. I’m designing on the side. Within one day of launching the site I received over 120 emails from people claiming to want to help me.
Obviously, I assumed almost all of those are scams of some kind. However, there were a few emails that seem to come from Shopify itself. They all ended in Gmail, and when I emailed to see if they were legit, it seems that Shopify would never send a third-party person. Even though it says Shopify security and has a bunch of technical jargon, which seems to be legit.
Unfortunately, I don’t see anyone at Shopify itself that I can talk to, or anyway to legitimize so I’m assuming they are not.
sometimes the emails say they are from a security team at Shopify that will lock up the site if steps are not taken…
Any help identifying if these are legit?

Welcome to the community.
First about how many emails you got, most likely there are numerous scripts that run and check for new Shopify stores so you get a lot of spam. And scams also, even if it sounds legit if it is a Gmail account it is a scam. Plus you may get offers from “experts” that will increase sales to $40K a month.
Use common sense and block and delete all those emails.
And how do you identify if it is a Shopify legit email? Well check

“Shopify will only send emails from official domains such as @shopify.com, @email.shopify.com, @em.shopify.com, and @shopify-billpay.melio.com. Emails from public email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, Apple mail, or Hotmail aren’t from Shopify and should be treated as potential phishing attempts.”
If you search here or just Google you will find hundreds of topics with similar emails, like trying to pay for a free theme and so on.
Do not fall for urgency in the email subject, research a bit, look here on Google, and do not click any link in those emails. And do not reply back either.
