What are the main benefits of a paid theme? I have been advised to upgrade because I would sell more because the free themes don’t capture all traffic. Currently I have a free theme. In my dashboard, does it capture all site visits? And if not, why not?
Hey @Dutchharvest
I’m gonna be straight with you, whoever told you that free themes don’t capture all traffic is completely wrong. That’s just not how it works.
Traffic tracking has NOTHING to do with your theme. Whether you’re using Dawn (free) or a $300 paid theme, your Shopify dashboard captures traffic the exact same way. It’s all handled by Shopify’s built-in analytics system, not the theme itself. So yes, your dashboard is capturing all your site visits accurately.
Now, here are the ACTUAL benefits of paid themes:
- More features out of the box - Advanced filtering, mega menus, lookbooks, product tabs, etc. without needing apps
- Better design options - More sections, layout flexibility, and visual styles to choose from
- Premium support - Direct help from theme developers (though quality varies)
- Unique look - Less “templated” appearance since fewer stores use the same theme
But here’s the truth: A paid theme won’t magically increase sales just because it’s paid. What matters is:
- Your product photos and descriptions
- Trust signals (reviews, policies, about page)
- Site speed and mobile experience
- Clear navigation and user experience
So to summarize this I would say, premium themes are only good if you wanna improve your store design.
Cheers,
