Payment Provider

I have sent messages in order to activate my payment provider and start accepting payment in my store, but none of the three providers I sent messages has responded to me. I sent to one last week repeated it again 2 days ago and then sent to 2 different ones 2 days ago too, but no response. How can I make a sale if there is no active payment provider in my store?. I am from Nigeria.

hi @Purplevilla

Hi there,

I completely understand your frustration — it’s really tough trying to launch and make sales when you’re stuck waiting on payment provider responses.

Here are a few steps you can try to move things forward:

  1. Double-check your emails
Make sure their responses didn’t land in your spam/junk folder. Also, confirm that you sent your messages to the correct official contact emails listed on Shopify’s payment provider page.

  2. Try reaching out through alternative channels
Many payment providers are more responsive via:

  • Live chat on their websites
  • Twitter / X or LinkedIn (public posts often get faster attention)
  • Phone numbers if available

Some common providers that support Nigeria include:

  • Paystack (now part of Stripe)
  • Flutterwave
  • VoguePay Make sure you’ve completed all required sign-up steps on their platform and not just sent emails.
  1. Use a manual payment method as a temporary fix
While you’re waiting for approval, you can enable a manual payment method (like bank deposit or mobile transfer) in Shopify:

Go to:
Settings > Payments > Manual payment methods > Add manual payment method

This lets customers place orders and pay offline, and you can manually fulfill them once payment is confirmed.

  1. Consider Third-party payment integrations
If you’re still stuck after a few more days, you could look into integrating a third-party gateway via Shopify’s custom payment integration (for developers) — not ideal short-term, but helpful if you’re building something long-term.

Possible reasons for delay in response from Payment Providers: There could be delays caused by too many requests, documents that are not complete, verification processes as well as technical problems.

How to Resolve:

Get in touch again: Send another email/message to the payment providers and remind them about your business and ask for an update. Communicate through phone or social media where necessary.

Check if Documents are Okay: Confirm that you gave out a CAC certificate, valid ID, bank details, and TIN number. Monitor what is shown on provider dashboards.

Consider other options: Make applications to trustworthy ones such as Paystack, Flutterwave or OPay.

Employ Assistance: Hire an indigenous programmer who can help in integration or compliance.

Selling Without a Payment Provider:

Bank Transfers: Share account details and confirm payments manually.

Payment Links: Use Flutterwave or Paystack links for card/transfer payments.

Mobile Money: Accept payments via OPay or USSD.

Social Media/Marketplaces: Sell on Instagram, WhatsApp, or Jumia, using manual payments.

Tips for Nigeria:

— Ensure CAC registration for CBN compliance.

— Compare fees (e. g., Paystack ~1. 5% + ₦100).

— Join e-commerce groups for advice.

Finally: Contact providers again, check documents and consider either Paystack/flatterwave. Sell through bank transfers, mobile money or jumia while waiting to go live.
