Question about the web pixel extensions

Hi, all.

I am currently working on building a web pixel extension as part of a Shopify app. But there are two things that I am not sure about:

  1. Will the web pixel extension (which is relatively new) work for all the stores with built-in storefronts. I am specifically concerned about older stores that may not be running on the latest storefront versions (or is it even a thing to have different versions of Shopify storefronts?)

  2. For headless stores, especially stores built on Hydrogen, will the web pixel extension still work? Or we have to do different kind of custom pixels to get the tracking events? I couldn’t find useful documentations talking about web pixel api working with hydrogen stores.

Can anyone with experience on this area give some tips? Really appreciate it!

Hi Ggdd1,

Web pixels should work on all Liquid based themes (ie: there’s no dependancy on specific theme features like JSON templates - a feature of OS2.0). Web pixels currently are not supported on Hydrogen or headless stores though.
