Hey!
We are currently operating on Advanced Shopify but want to move under another brand Shopify plus plan. A different company recently acquired us and requested us to move the site under their plan.
- Is it possible?
- How would can we do the move? Does it require dev support or is it a change on Shopify end?
Thank you so much for the support
Hi @KimB95
Yes, it is possible to move your existing Shopify store from an Advanced plan to a Shopify Plus plan. Since your company has been acquired by another company that already has a Shopify Plus plan, they can request to transfer your store to their plan.
To initiate the move, you will need to contact the Shopify Support team or your Shopify Plus account manager to let them know about the acquisition and your intention to transfer the store. They will guide you through the process and provide the necessary assistance.
Typically, transferring a store from one Shopify plan to another involves the following steps:
-
Verification and eligibility: The acquiring company will need to provide proof of ownership or authorization to transfer the store. Shopify will verify the request and ensure that the store meets the eligibility criteria for a Shopify Plus plan.
-
Plan upgrade and billing: Once the transfer is approved, your store’s billing plan will be upgraded from Advanced to Shopify Plus. This usually involves a change in pricing, as Shopify Plus is a more advanced and feature-rich plan.
-
Store migration: The actual migration of your store’s data, settings, themes, and apps will be handled by Shopify’s technical team. They will ensure a smooth transition of your store to the Shopify Plus infrastructure.
-
Testing and verification: After the migration is complete, it is important to thoroughly test the transferred store to ensure all functionality and integrations are working as expected. This will help identify and resolve any potential issues or discrepancies.
While the majority of the migration process will be handled by Shopify’s team, there may be specific customizations or integrations that require additional development support. If you have any custom code or specific configurations in your Advanced store, it is advisable to involve your development team or Shopify experts to ensure a seamless transition.
It’s important to note that the exact process and requirements may vary based on your specific circumstances, so it’s best to reach out to Shopify Support or your Shopify Plus account manager for personalized guidance and support throughout the transfer process.
Hope my solution works perfectly for you.
Cheers!

Hi, @KimB95
Thanks for posting to the Community!
This is a tricky situation as Shopify has strict authentication policies in place preventing users who aren’t authorized on the account from accessing information.
If the Plus business acquired your business, I recommend having a discussion on if they will be officially acquiring your Shopify account, for example being listed as the Account Owner. This will enable them to acquire the store under their Plus account.
In this situation the best course of action is to have the Plus account reach out to their Merchant Success Manager to discuss the situation and find out the best way to move forward.
