Hi everyone,
I recently transferred a development store to my client. While it was under my Partner account, the plan showed ₹1,994/month (India pricing). But after the transfer, it now shows $40/month instead.
I want to understand why the price changed after the transfer, and how my client can get the India pricing back. Their business is based in India, so ideally the billing should stay in INR.
Has anyone faced this before? Do we need to update billing country or contact Shopify Support to switch it back?
Thanks in advance!
Hi @limeishere
Thanks for the clear breakdown of your situation. I’ve looked into it, and here’s how things work:
What’s going on & Why pricing changed:
- Shopify supports billing in Indian Rupees (INR) when a merchant’s billing country is set to India, all address fields are correctly filled, and a supported Indian payment method (UPI or RuPay/Visa/Mastercard co-branded card) is used.
- When you transferred the development store to your client, the billing likely switched to USD. This usually happens if the client’s store billing address or payment method didn’t meet the criteria for INR billing.
Steps for your client to switch back to INR:
- Log in as the store owner, then navigate to Settings → Billing → Billing profile → Address and currency → Manage.
- Confirm your billing address is fully set to India, following Shopify’s formatting requirements for business name, PIN code, etc.
- Add a valid Indian payment method (UPI or an accepted co-branded card).
- Click Change currency, choose INR, and confirm the change.
Ensure any outstanding invoices are fully paid, because Shopify restricts currency changes until all invoices are settled. If the currency option remains unavailable or greyed out, reach out to Shopify Support to request switching back to INR.
Hope this helps
Here’s the thing they can’t even access the settings as the only option in front of them is to pay and nothing else
