I originally had a “collections” tag under my Products section on my Shopify Admin page. I have set up some products and now there is no option for “collections” anywhere in my shopify. I have been seeing that maybe I had set collections to automated when setting this up. Coincidentally, all of the solutions first tell me to go to Products > Collections to edit this. The issue is that “Collections” doesnt exist in my options. I have no way of editing, adding, changing settings, etc. After a lot of searching I found a way to click the the “collections” link. To do this I have to edit a product and type in a collection (that obviously doesnt exist) then a link pops up that says “create new”. I click that and i am sent to an error 404 page on shopify. I am stuck and dont know where to go from here.
Hey there, @greenvalleyhydr . Thanks for reaching out to the Shopify Community!
Interesting error you’ve run into here! I’ve actually never heard of anyone experiencing something like this before, so I’m eager to chat with you so we can get to the bottom of things!
So typically, when in your Shopify Admin, you should have some menu options available for you to select on the left. One of those should be ‘Products’. If you select that ‘Product’ option, a small dropdown should appear that looks like the following:
I just want to be clear: when you click on ‘Products’ on the menu to the left of your admin, the ‘collection’ option doesn’t appear? Do any of the others appear?
Something else to test: try logging into a different browser, and see if the ‘Collection’ option appears using that other browser.
I’m very keen for you to get back to me! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your reply!
I got the exact same problem, and yes the collection option does not appear when you click on products, and i can’t any of my products to a collection. The whole collection option does not exist in my store. Another thing that i noticed was that the domain name on my shopify starts with admin. And not the orignial name as it should be.
I came here as well to say I have the same issue (using the App on iPad pro and on samsung galaxy S22) and it’s the same on the web browser. I have been trying for days to figure this out and every thread I find on the subject is unresolved/unanswered, but theres a ton of explanations on how collections are supposed to work. There is no collections other than “home page” and I cannot edit or add anything to it. It gives me an error that states “You need permission from administrator” when I attempt to do or change anything. I am the only user for my shopify.
Pretty sure I have the solution as I’ve spent 3 days and ended up having to contact support for this issue along with not being able to edit my theme at all. It’s all locked behind a pay wall. They DO NOT tell you this. It is not stated in any of the guides that if you are on the Starter tier, you cannot edit collections or themes until you upgrade to the Basic Tier or higher. If anyone from Shopify reads this, I really hope you make that clear by having the option there but greyed out with a symbol next to it or state it in the guides that we need to pay more in order to access these things. Not gaslight us into thinking we’re crazy with “weird that option should be there” lol
I know this is an older thread but I’m posting this here incase another wayward new shopify user stumbles here looking for answers like I did.
Hey there, @ArcanthysArt ! Thanks for sharing this update on the situation! I was actually in the process of writing out a longer post with some troubleshooting steps, but your follow up here saved us the trouble!
Great job reaching out to our Authenticated Support Team for assistance with this issue. I believe that the original poster may have been experiencing a different issue than you were here (they mentioned 404 errors), but regardless, it’s great that you were able to determine why this option was missing for you.
I’m going to take the time to mark your latest reply as an ‘Accepted Solution’ so future folks looking for information will be able to quickly find the information you’ve provided. Additionally, we’ll continue to add more ‘Accepted Solutions’ as folks follow up here regarding their specific issue with access ‘collections’.
Thanks again for your super prompt follow up!
