Considerations for setting up B2B shipping methods
Before you set up any shipping methods for your B2B business, review the following considerations:
- Configure shipping zones for any B2B market that you create in your shipping profiles. If a B2B market doesn't have shipping zones configured in a shipping profile, then checkout doesn't display shipping options to your B2B customers.
- If you have a blended store, then the shipping methods that you set up are available to all customers by default, both B2B and D2C. However, you can customize the availability your shipping methods to specific customers or types of customers.
- The following shipping and delivery methods aren't available in B2B checkout:
B2B order management and fulfillment
Before you can start processing B2B orders from your online store, you need to set up order fulfillment and shipping settings:
- Shipping methods: Which shipping carriers or services you offer.
- Shipping rates: How much you charge for shipping.
- Locations: Where you ship from.
- Shipping profiles: Specific shipping rules for different products and location groups.
Local delivery in B2B
B2B customers can't select local delivery as a delivery method at checkout. However, if your set up local delivery in your store, then you can select local delivery for draft orders that you create in your Shopify admin.
You can also create shipping profiles to represent the local delivery options that you want to make available to B2B customers. After you create them, you can customize the availability of these delivery options to make them available only to B2B customers.
Pickup in store in B2B
You can offer pickup in store to your B2B customers as a delivery method at checkout. You can also select pickup in store for draft orders that you create in your Shopify admin.
If you operate a blended store and activate pickup in store in your store, then both B2B and D2C customers can choose pickup in store as a delivery method at checkout. If you want to offer pickup in store only to specific customer types, then you can use the Checkout Blocks app to hide individual pickup in store options at checkout from specific customer types.
You can also create shipping profiles to represent the pickup options that you want to make available to B2B customers. After you create them, you can customize the availability of these pick up options to make them available only to B2B customers at checkout.
Customizing shipping methods
You can display different shipping options to specific customers or groups of customers. To do this, first set up your shipping methods, then customize their availability in one of these three ways:
- Use Shopify Checkout Blocks app.
- Install a third-party app from the Shopify App Store.
- Create a custom app using the Delivery Customization Function API. Shopify Functions are available on all plans.
