Managing your Shopify Balance cards

You can use the Shopify Balance card as a tool for managing your business expenses. You can view and manage your Shopify Balance card details from the Balance section of your Shopify admin.

Number of virtual and physical Shopify Balance cards you can have

After you set up your Shopify Balance account, your virtual card is automatically activated. There's a limit of one virtual card and one physical card for your main Shopify Balance account. If you have multiple accounts configured for Shopify Balance, then you might be able to create virtual cards linked to your additional Shopify Balance accounts, with a limit of one virtual card per additional account. You might also be able to set up secondary cardholders for any staff accounts associated with your Shopify store.

Shopify Balance card fees

Shopify doesn't charge any fees for using your Shopify Balance card. However, automated teller machine (ATM) provider fees might apply. You can find more information about fees in your Terms of Service.

View card information

You can view your virtual or physical card information, such as the card number or cardholder details.

For security reasons, you might receive a prompt to authenticate your account when viewing your card information.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finance.

  2. In the My cards section, select the card that you want to view the information of.

  3. Click Show numbers to view your card number, expiry date, and CVV number.

Mobile
  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. Tap Finance.

  3. In the My cards section, tap the Shopify Balance card that you want to view.

  4. Tap Show numbers to view your card number, expiry date, and CVV number.

Create new cards

You can create physical and virtual cards up to the maximum number of cards you can have at any time. You can create cards and link them to your main Shopify Balance account or any additional Shopify Balance accounts to manage your different spending types.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finance.

  2. Select a Shopify Balance account that you want to create a new card for.

  3. In the My cards section, click Plus icon to create a new card.

  4. In the Cardholder field, enter the name of the cardholder or select the cardholder from the dropdown menu.

  5. In the Linked account field, select the linked account.

  6. Choose either Virtual or Physical as your card type.

  7. Click Create card.

Mobile
  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. Tap Finance, and then set up your new card:

    • If you have only a single Shopify Balance account, then in the My cards section, tap the Plus icon icon.
    • If you have more than one Shopify Balance account, then in the Accounts section, tap the account that you want to create a card for, and then in the My cards section, tap the Plus icon icon.
  3. In the Cardholder field, enter the name of the cardholder or select the cardholder from the dropdown menu.

  4. In the Linked account field, select the linked account.

  5. Choose either Virtual or Physical as your card type.

  6. Tap Create card.

Link your Shopify Balance card to Apple Pay or Google Pay

You can link your virtual or physical Shopify Balance card to your Google Pay or Apple Pay wallet to use the card for online and in-person payments. You can link your Shopify Balance card to your digital wallet in a number of different ways.

Link your Shopify Balance card to Apple Pay or Google Pay wallet using the Shopify app

You can link your virtual or physical Shopify Balance card to Google Pay or Apple Pay directly from the Shopify app. After linking your Shopify Balance card to a digital wallet, you can use it to pay in-person and online immediately.

iPhone

Steps:

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. Tap Finance.

  3. In the My cards section, select the Shopify Balance card that you want to link to your Apple Wallet.

  4. Tap Add to Apple Wallet.

  5. On the Add card to Apple Pay page, select the Apple device that you want to add your card to.

  6. On the Add card page, tap Next to add your Shopify Balance card to your Apple Pay wallet.

Android

Steps:

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. Tap Finance.

  3. In the My cards section, select the Shopify Balance card that you want to link to your Google Pay wallet.

  4. Tap Add to Google Wallet.

  5. On the Add payment card screen, tap Add to Wallet.

  6. On the Add card screen, tap Continue to add your Shopify Balance card to your Google Pay wallet.

Link your Shopify Balance card to your Apple Pay or Google Pay wallet using the Shopify Balance app

With the Shopify Balance app, you can link your virtual or physical Shopify Balance card to your mobile wallet so that you can make payments online and in-person.

iPhone

Steps:

  1. From the Shopify Balance app, tap the Wallet icon.
  2. Tap the card that you want to add to your mobile wallet.
  3. Tap Add to Apple Wallet.
  4. Confirm your cardholder details, and then tap Continue.
  5. Review the terms and conditions, and then tap Agree.
  6. Optional: To set this card as your default card in Apple Wallet, tap Add Now.
Android

Steps:

  1. From the Shopify Balance app, tap the Wallet icon.
  2. Tap the card that you want to add to your mobile wallet.
  3. Tap Add to Google Pay.
  4. Confirm your cardholder details, and then tap Continue.
  5. Review the terms and conditions, and then tap Agree.

After you link your Shopify Balance card to your mobile wallet, you can use your Shopify Balance card to make in-store and online purchases immediately.

Link your Shopify Balance card to your Apple Pay or Google Pay wallet using your Shopify Balance card details

You can add your virtual or physical Shopify Balance card to Apple Pay or Google Pay using your Shopify Balance card numbers.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finance.

  2. Select your main Shopify Balance account.

  3. Click the card that you want to link.

  4. Click Show numbers.

Update your cardholder details

You can update your Shopify Balance cardholder details, including your billing address and phone number, in your Shopify Balance account.

If you have a physical card as well as a virtual card, then any changes that you make apply to both cards.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finance.

  2. In the My cards section, select any card associated with the cardholder that you want to change the details of.

  3. Click , and then click Cardholder details.

  4. Click Edit to change your billing address or mobile phone number.
