Customizing the Shopify POS Terminal customer display

Customizing the customer display screen on your Shopify POS Terminal, or in the Customer View app on Android devices, helps reinforce your store’s branding and enhances the customer experience at checkout.

You can customize your customer display screen in the following ways:

  • Set different colors to match your brand theme.
  • Display a logo or custom text.
  • Display a background image.
  • Display your store's accepted card types.
  • Choose whether to display product images on the cart screen.
  • Set a thank you message for your customers.

Customizing the idle screen on Shopify POS Terminal

You can upload your logo, a background image, or some text to the idle screen for Shopify POS Terminal. The selections that you make automatically display on all Shopify POS Terminal devices in all locations.

Logo image requirements

To achieve the best resolution for your Shopify POS Terminal idle screen, the logo image must meet the following requirements:

  • The image needs to be in PNG or JPG format.
  • The image needs to be transparent.

Background image requirements

To achieve the best resolution for your Shopify POS Terminal background, the background image must meet the following requirements:

  • The image file needs to be in PNG or JPG format.
  • The image file size needs to be less than 15 MB.
  • The image dimensions need to be 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Edit your customer display idle screen on Shopify POS Terminal

You can edit your idle screen's logo, background, and text.

For the background of the idle screen, you can choose a background color or an image. To overlay the background of the idle screen, you can choose a logo image, or some text and a color for the text.

In the display editor, you can switch to tablet preview to view how your changes display using the Customer View app on an Android tablet device.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

  2. In the Customize section, click Customer displays.

  3. Click Idle screen.

  4. For the foreground of your idle screen, do either of the following in the Logo section:

    • To set a logo image for the foreground of your idle screen:
      1. Click the Media tab, and then click Select media or drag and drop an image to upload a file.
      2. Select your logo image, and then click Done.
      3. Optional: To adjust the size of the logo, use the Logo scale range slider.
    • To set some text for the foreground or your idle screen:
      1. Click the Text tab.
      2. Enter your text.
      3. Optional: To select a color for your text, use the color picker tool.

  5. For the background of your idle screen, do either of the following in the Background section:

    • To set an image as your idle screen background:
      1. Click the Media tab, and then click Select media or drag and drop your image to upload a file.
      2. Select your image, and then click Done.
      3. Optional: To adjust the contrast of your image, use the Background opacity range slider.
    • To set a background color for your idle screen:
      1. Click the Color tab.
      2. Use the color picker to select a background color.

  6. Click Save.

Set a color scheme for Shopify POS Terminal

You can set a color scheme for the checkout screens on your Shopify POS Terminal. If you have colors that you chose in your store's checkout editor, then these colors are selected by default for Shopify POS Terminal. The color scheme doesn't display on debit card or credit card payment screens on Shopify POS Terminal.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

  2. In the Customize section, click Customer displays.

  3. In the Display Editor sidebar, click Checkout.

  4. In the Theme sidebar, do the following:

    1. To set a background color for your display, click the color picker for Primary color, and then enter a hex color code or choose a color from the color picker.
    2. To set a color for your primary buttons and other highlight effects, click the color picker for Accent color, and then enter a hex color code or choose a color from the color picker.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Optional: To preview your color scheme in the receipts screen or thank you screen , click the Cart drop-down menu, and then select either the Receipts or Thank you option.

Display accepted card brands on Shopify POS Terminal

You can display accepted payment methods on the idle screen. The accepted payment methods automatically display on all Shopify POS Terminal devices in all locations.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

  2. In the Customize section, click Customer displays.

  3. Click Idle screen.

  4. Select Show payment options.

  5. Click Save.

Customize the thank you message on Shopify POS Terminal

You can add a custom thank you message to display on the Shopify POS Terminal when a transaction is completed. The custom message automatically displays on all Shopify POS Terminal devices in all locations.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

  2. In the Customize section, click Customer displays.

  3. Click Checkout.

  4. From the Cart drop-down menu, select Thank you.

  5. In the Thank you message text field, enter your custom message.

  6. Click Save.

Customize the product image display on Shopify POS Terminal

By default, the Shopify POS Terminal displays product images to your customers on the cart screen. You can deactivate product images on your Shopify POS Terminal at any time.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

  2. In the Customize section, click Customer displays.

  3. Click Checkout.

  4. In the Cart section, deselect Show product images.

  5. Click Save.
