Using the POS editor to customize your Shopify POS

You can use the POS editor in the Shopify admin to customize the appearance and functionality of Shopify POS, including your smart grid, lock screen, customer display, and in-store receipts. The POS editor is separate from the Shopify POS app on your device. From the POS editor, you can also manage payment settings, POS apps, customer receipt selection, and required checkout information.

Access the POS editor

You can access the POS editor from your Shopify admin.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

  2. In the Customization section, click any of the customizable elements, such as POS app, Customer display, or Printed receipts, to open the POS editor.

The POS editor includes the following areas:

  • The menu bar includes navigation controls to switch between sidebar views in the POS editor.
  • The sidebar displays a tree view of all the content for the template that you're currently viewing. You can manage POS screens and templates, POS apps, and settings from the sidebar.
  • The preview area displays your POS screens and templates. The preview updates as you make changes.

In the menu bar, you can switch between the following views in the sidebar:

  • Sections to customize the layout of your POS screens and templates.
  • Settings to customize receipt options and required checkout information.
  • Apps to customize and find apps for Shopify POS.

Undoing and redoing unsaved changes

You can use the undo and redo buttons to undo or redo unsaved changes in the POS editor.

Previewing your POS screens and templates

Use the page selector in the menu bar to preview how your customizations are displayed in Shopify POS.

Click the page selector button, and then choose from the available Point of Sale, Customer display, and Printed receipts options.

You must save your changes before navigating between different pages in the POS editor.

Previewing device types and display settings

You can preview how your POS displays on different devices, such as Tablet or Mobile, and with different display settings, such as Light and Dark mode.

Click Preview Preview in the menu bar to switch between device types and display settings.

Previewing your printed receipt templates

You can preview how your customizations are displayed on different receipt templates such as Sales receipt, Refund, and Gift receipt. You can also preview your receipt template in different sizes, such as 80 mm and 57 mm.

On the Printed receipts page in the POS editor, click the Receipt button in the menu bar to preview a receipt template and size.
