Reviewing the version history of a workflow in Shopify Flow

Every workflow in Shopify Flow records a complete version history, storing a log of edits, activations, deactivations, and exports of the workflow. Each version item includes details, such as the name of the user who made the change and the timestamp. Changes that you make to your workflow drafts are logged automatically in the version history, and require no additional steps from you.

Referring to a workflow's version history can be useful for troubleshooting your workflow and identifying which users might have the most context about specific changes that were made to the workflow.

Any staff member with access to the Flow app can access the version history of any workflow.

Considerations for the version history

Before using a workflow's version history, review the following considerations:

  • You can't revert to a previous version of the workflow from the version history.
  • Some historical workflow event data is available only from April 2026 onwards.
  • Workflow event data is retained in the workflow's version history for only 1 year.
  • If multiple edits are made to a version, then the version history displays only the 7 most recent changes by each user.

Access a workflow's version history

You can access a workflow's version history on the workflow details page. The version history includes the following information:

  • The date and time the version was logged.
  • Any changes in workflow status, such as the workflow version being Active or a Draft.
  • The type of changes made to the version, such as whether the workflow was Edited or Activated. If multiple edits are made to a version, then the version history displays only the 7 most recent changes by each user.
  • The name of the user that made the change.

The version history also marks changes made by Sidekick or by Shopify, such as migrations or automated processes.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Flow.

  2. Click the workflow that you want to review the version history for.

  3. Click the Version history tab.
