* The delivery speed starts from when the payment is processed, not necessarily the day the payment is deducted. Payments are processed only on one occasion each day before 9:00 pm ET for standard delivery methods such as ACH bank transfer and paper check. Some delivery methods, such as same-day ACH, have earlier cutoff times. Any payments that are submitted after the cutoff time for the selected delivery method begin processing on the next business day. For example, a payment that takes one business day that is paid at 10:30 pm ET on a Monday isn't processed until Tuesday morning, and won't arrive at the vendor's account until one business day from Tuesday, which would be Wednesday.

** This represents the fee for the delivery method only, there can still be fees for the payment method. For the full list of fees, refer to the full payment fees section.

Full payment fees overview

When you pay in a foreign currency, the exchange rate shown includes both the mid-market rate from Wise and the Bill Pay fee. The mid-market rate is the standard exchange rate used by banks and financial institutions. To simplify your foreign currency payments, the Bill Pay fee is included in the displayed exchange rate rather than showing as a separate charge.

The conversion rate in Bill Pay is guaranteed for 30 minutes. If you don't complete the payment within this timeframe and attempt to pay the bill again, you might get a different rate.

Shopify and our international payments partners might include a margin on foreign exchange transactions as a platform cost. This margin represents the difference between the wholesale (mid-market) exchange rate and the actual rate used for your payment conversion. Exchange rates can change frequently due to market movements.

The conversion rate provided by Melio includes both conversion and service fees. These fees might vary depending on each payment's specific parameters. You can determine the total fees by comparing the displayed rate with the mid-market rate (the midpoint between currency buy and sell prices). Payment providers typically offer rates higher than the mid-market rate to cover operational costs and associated services.

Review the following table to understand all applicable fees based on the payment method and delivery method.

International exchange rates

How your payment information is displayed to vendors

When you begin using Shopify Bill Pay, let your vendors know that you're changing your payment process. Review the following details of the delivery methods so that you can advise your vendors on what to expect.

Bank transfers

On your vendor's bank statements, Shopify Bill Pay payments are listed with your business name and "melio", such as "[Your business name] melio CCD". Your business name isn't always listed, but "melio" is always listed.

Paper checks

Paper checks are addressed to your vendor and contain your business name and address. The bank account numbers are Melio's, Shopify Bill Pay's partner, so your own banking information is never shared with the vendor.
