UPDATED: FIRE TV TEAM CALLED and fixed!
Wish I could write. Better review. When it works it’s grear. Takes a long time to wake up after a night of no use. Lot of buffering and Hulu and Netflix often don’t work among others. The stick actually is more reliable. Also has trouble identifying if it’s on HDC02 for 4K. Thus far dissapoibted despite the fact that it has Spotify app which Roku does not. I liked the idea of Alexa being used but hooping all this clears up wheb I get the modem adapter which for some bizarre reason is sold sepeeratley and takes a month to arrive. So far this is not comparable to Roku in any level. The fire stick is 10 times better than the Fire tv. Here is me waiting for Hulu for over 5 min. UPDATE: Was just called by AMAZON FIRE Team - when I'm home from work they want to trouble-shoot with me SO - maybe this can be fixed which I would LOVE. Update 3.25.18 Amazon tech saw the review and called me. Trouble shot the issues and within 10 minutes had things working fine. Unplugging the unit solved at least half of the problems and they have not returned since. And I have now been able to really explore fire TV and it’s a fantastic item. The 4K issue has not come up again either and it plays beautifully and seamlessly and I don’t even have it plugged in to my Internet yet I am just using Wi-Fi There are many differences between this and Roku and having used a lot of stuff including Apple TV I believe Amazon fire or Roku are the only two options in terms of streaming devices and in my next review I will go through more specifically what I like about fire TV as compared to Roku and with the main differences are but I wanted to at least get a review up to let people know Amazon cared and fixed the problem

First of all, I wasn't sure about buying this, because of the reviews, and only 4 stars.

And the complains of people., of not getting the 4k working or getting the message of device not supported to play 4k movies.

I own the Firestick 2 gen, and it works great, I love it.

But my TV is 4k, so that's why I was looking at this one 3rd Gen.,and 4k.

But all the bad reviews, I wasn't sure.

Till the prime day, price was cheaper and I said to myself, let's try it... I bought it.

Device arrive, and I was so excited to give it a try.

I unplug my old one Firestick, and plug in the new one with 4k :)

Turn it on and set it up., right away was looking for a 4k movie. And because is a 4k device, Amazon gives you an option with all the 4k movies available with prime. :) that was great.

I click on the first one I saw and I got the message, that my device or TV wasn't supported.. I was like what? :(

I ask my wife to make sure our TV was 4k lol, and she said, yes it is. :)

So, I was thinking for a few minutes, ( what else could be then?) my TV is 4k and the device is 4k. Mmm

I when and look at my TV manual to see, if was maybe a setting or something., like that to activate the 4k.

And when I was looking at it, I saw all the HDMI ( 5 total on my TV ) ports and instructions on how to use then.

And then I realized that no all the HDMI ports are 4k capable. :x weird but true.

So I look at the ones with 4k resolution., the main one is different color, my is yellow.

Well I followed the instructions.. Turn off TV and device, then plug the device in, into the right 4k HDMI port.. Then turn the TV on and the device On... THAT'S IT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

I click on the 4k movie and it was amazing..

No more message of device not supported..

And now I can change to any resolution available of the fire TV 2160,1080 and 720.

I just left it Auto.. Default option.

This HDMI port also delivers better sound quality and better speed..

OH my god, this Device is awesome... Is very fast very responsive, and Alexa works better than the previous Gen..

Of course for Alexa to work, you must press the mic button., or get the Amazon dot device..

I'm so happy with my new Fire TV... It works great, very responsive and very fast, it is a great upgrade from my now old fire TV :D

    Reliable with great video/sound.

Please hit the HELPFUL button if this provided you with information that helped your buying decision.

Cliff’s Notes: If you watch/listen mostly to Prime content, you will love this. And you can pay for some subscription-based services to customize what you want to watch. Reliable with great video/sound.

I wanted to cut the cord from my TV provider and decided to go with Amazon’s Fire products. The Amazon 4K Fire TV is an upgrade to the Fire TV Stick. I have a newer Firestick and bought the 4K Fire TV after that because I wanted to be able to add apps outside the Amazon store. Going into developer mode and turning on those permissions allowed me to add some apps I wanted that were not in Amazon’s store easily and with no installation issues.

To ensure you get the best picture for your TV resolution, you should go into the settings and ensure that the Auto-detect setting is set. This way you can be sure it is providing 1080, 2k or 4k, depending on your TV specs.

I have 200 mbps FIOS internet through an AC band router using the 5 Ghz band and it streams effortlessly with no slowdown, glitches, or delays. The interface is well designed, but be aware that you might need to scroll down on some screens to get something you want outside of the Prime offerings, as they list things with Amazon services first.

Amazon sends this to you with your account already set-up…great customer experience. You can also set up a password for purchases, in case you have children or others that might inadvertently buy new content. Of course, Prime services are preloaded, but you might need to add some items like Netflix, which is very easy using their setup mode.

The Alexa integration on the voice activated remote is great. You can ask Alexa to show you action movies, the weather, etc. I found the response to be fast and pretty accurate, although it might take a little learning how to best ask Alexa for things to get the best responses.

Another probably not used as much item is the Bluetooth…with that, I have connected a Bluetooth keyboard that REALLY is a time saver when you have to put in passwords, or put in a URL address if you are adding something outside the Amazon store. Bluetooth can be used for headphones also, if you want to watch/listen while not disturbing others.

    Negatives (not deal breakers):

Amazon should allow more competitor apps…after all, if this is for entertainment and people use different apps/services, they should have it available. You can add them yourself, but that should not be necessary. This is putting Amazon OVER the customer needs.

Also, not having an ethernet port might not be criminal, but it is again because Amazon wants you to BUY another device, rather than provide what should be in the box. Greed like that is inexcusable.

The HDMI cable should be longer…I had to attach an extender to mine to get it where I wanted since my audio and video components are on wall shelving.

There are not as many free apps as you might expect, so it would be nice to have a filter for just free apps.

Great streaming device - Roku is better
Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2018

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

I have both the Fire Stick and this Fire TV and a Roku Ultra. All work well. The Fire TV is a little faster than the Fire Stick - more responsive and seems to connect a little faster. Fire Stick and Fire TV are great for streaming Amazon Prime shows and movies. They also work well streaming Netflix. I have pretty fast internet service and rarely get the time-out spinner.

If you are on the fence between this Fire TV or the less expensive Fire Stick, I'd probably go with the Fire Stick if you want to save money. If money is not a big issue go with the faster Fire TV device.

I deducted a star because Amazon & Google are having a feud. Amazon makes it harder to stream YouTube TV. Google devices make it harder to stream Amazon Prime. That's why I got the Roku. I went with the more expensive Ultra (Ultimate) because it has a USB port so I can plug in a HD with downloaded movies. It also has Ethernet port, if needed, for faster speed. Roku streams Amazon Prime, Netflix, and YouTube TV without a problem. They all also do Hulu, Pandora, Sling, etc.

I'm thinking about "cutting the cord" and have been trying online streaming services. YouTube TV is the winner so far. Lots of channels, unlimited DVR space. The interface could be better. I tried DirectTV Now! but canceled the service because they do not (as of 4/1/18) have DVR service - supposed to be coming. Plus I got more buffering spinning wheel than with YouTube, Amazon, & Netflix. None of the services I tried or researched have a good interface like I am used to with Spectrum Cable. I like to browse the "Guide" to see what's on that night. I also like to see my "List" of recorded shows and dates/descriptions of each show recorded. None of the services do that very well. YouTube TV is $45/mo (I signed up at $35) and is probably the best deal since you have unlimited DVR space to record whatever you like.

Another downside to most of the cable cutting services is the inability to fast forward through ads on some recorded shows - IF that show is available in the On Demand list - even though you recorded it. Fast Forwarding is also a little different. Sometimes you cannot see the frames as you fast forward so you are guessing when to stop - happens on YouTube TV if you are watching a live show from the beginning while it is still live. My cable TV bill is $79/mo. (includes DVR). For now, it is still worth $35-$45 per month to have all the bells and whistles I get with my cable company. But good to know that if Spectrum keeps raising the rates, I can jump ship at any time and still have all my channels available to watch and record.

Sorry I got away from the Fire TV review... If you primarily watch Amazon Prime and Netflix, the Fire Stick and Fire TV is a good choice. They also are voice enabled to ask for a show or movie and also connect with Alexa if you prefer to ask Alexa to turn the volume up or down or find a show. We took the Fire Stick with us on vacation in the mountains. Plugged it into the HDMI port of the TV and had instant access to Amazon Prime and Netflix. [Roku is also voice enabled to search for shows/movies]

If Amazon & Google stop fighting and embrace each other's services and products, it will be a better world. For now, I will stick with my Roku device while my Fire TV collects dust - my Fire Stick is plugged into the kitchen TV.

    Small and compact streaming device

I received this All-New Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD and Alexa Voice Remote | Streaming Media Player from the seller Amazon Digital Services LLC and the shipping was fulfilled by Amazon FBA. Price at time of purchase was $69.99.

First off, I pre-ordered this with no rush shipping and the receipt date pushed back due to item being on backorder. Instead, the item literally showed up the next day. Nice Amazon.

It took only a half hour for me to set up. It is kinda tedious using the onscreen keyboard and I wish there was a way I could authorize to connect this via my laptop without having to punch in all the stuff I ended up having to do.

As soon as it was on I was able to browse movies and tvshows. I was really hoping that out of the box there would be networking support so I could stream from our home videos from my network devices but it isn't there. Only took a little research to find something that would do this for me though and now that's on there I can watch those videos. It's not the easiest, but I'm sure I'll find another app I like more. I'll just have to do some more looking before I get one I'm happy with.

I like having access to the free movies and tv shows. I feel it's a little too easy to pay for shows though, and I'd rather my kids don't accidentally buy something like the My Little Pony movie or anything like that. I have tried to lock it in as much as I can with a pin but it still seems like they'll figure out how to get past that eventually. My problem I suppose.

By far the most popular part to date has just been the ability to play music. We're not Amazon Music subscribers, but there's a lot available for simply being a Prime member as well. Being able to push the button and speak into the mic what song you want to listen to has been easy for each person in my family, including the 4 and 7 year old whom I thought might struggle with being understood. Alexa is getting good I guess.

The item is very small and fits behind my TV easy enough, but the port I'm currently using it hangs out about half an inch to the side, so I'm going to need to move it to a different HDMI port. The cable to charge is just another cable hanging down from the TV and eventually will be replaced when I run the wires behind the wall when I take the TV off to paint.

Overall I wish this had the built in ability for casting as well, since for some reason my TV will no longer let me cast from my phone to it and I don't want to buy a chromecast as well in order to be able to do that again. But I doubt Amazon and Google are going to play together well enough to let that happen any time soon.

Still, for the price, and getting free 4k streaming to my TV and the added apps I can load on it. This is a great device and I recommend to anyone who is either technically savvy enough to make it how they want it and/or happy to pay for the extra services like Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, etc. that will show them the content they want.

I picked this up for my mother, along with a 1 year membership to Amazon Prime for Mother's Day. She's not very technical, so I wanted something that would be easy for her to use. At 74, she's a big terrified of new technology. She is intelligent and willing to learn something, of she finds interest in it. I thought this would be a good gift since she binges a lot of videos when she travels down to visit a couple times a year.

I setup the device while she was visiting. I plugged her cable info into the first app and Amazon added it to a universal login for about 15 other apps we had already downloaded, which made setup a breeze. I added Netflix, Hulu and linked her Movies Anywhere account to Amazon. She was all set and used it for the rest of her visit. She just came back for my daughter's high school graduation and just raved about how she loves her FireTV and how easy it is to use.

I have a Shield TV, Apple TV 4K (we got it for free) and a Roku on every TV. We just cut the cord and went with DirecTV NOW, which doesn't work on the Roku. We picked up a FireTV for the downstairs TV to use for DirecTV NOW. We have Amazon Prime, and it was a 1 day ship. My wife, who gets frustrated with just the TV remote, loves the FireTV. We have the Apple TV 4K in the bedroom and I find her going downstairs to watch TV because prefers the interface and finds it easier to use. I have to admit, the universal login is better than the Apple TV 4K, it has more apps and the interface is very intuitive. The speed is faster than the Rokus, but not as fast as the FireTV; it is close though. It also only shows recommendations for apps that we have installed, instead of the Apple TV, which will recommend paid streaming apps we don't want. I think we will be upgrading all of our Rokus to FireTV.

Great product but gets viruses from apps called "Downloader and ES Files" My Asus router was decting adware/scam and melicious sites but blocked and crushed by my router, it's woopen its butt but amazon does not protect its devices with A Firewall or anything, so heres what u do "After you used Downloader or ES file to download your app that you want and your fully done programming your app go back and delete/Uninstall "Downloader and es files" then go back and turn "off" apps from unknown sources and debugging on your fire stick/tv that should do it oh and it will not delete your new app you downloaded. Also if you like also download an Antivirus app/program like avast or melwarebytes!!!! I have it wired Ethernet cabel into my personal router and for some reason did not work with time warner cable Modem, probley cause i have wifi turned off on twc Modem, and i run Everything on my Asus rtac5300 Beast. I play 4k movies no problem very little if any glitches no buffering with only middle class internet speed from twc. HIGHLY recomend getting an AC Router or 5G wifi network with Antivirus and firewall like micro trend you will get full benfits from your New Fire TV unit with ac router on 5g network or just Ethernet it with CAT6 and be done with it. Okay so 100% of time if your Remote Controller does not work most likely your batteries are dead! Change them out trust me i have a fire stick that went into another room after i replaced it with my New fire tv unit I was stumped for alittle bit the remote was not working on fire stick so changed out those batteries and wala!. Now i have two amazon streaming units both run great! Okay back to the new fire tv unit, I have my new amazon fire tv unit on a hdmi splitter that has 3 hdmi ports that go to it and its singles hdmi cord is about 2 feet long got it at frys electronics for peanuts but works perfect also when my tv is off i can just press home button on amazon fire tv remote and it turns on automaticly even if im watching direct tv satalite tv or any cable tv ect. it still go strait to main menu when home button is pressed. Okay so your new fire tv device is going to need a little adjustment once you get it running go to setting and just play around with it if u dont know just google it or youtube it they will have all the information from customer reviews to trouble shooting to how to get the best out of your Brand New Amazon Fire TV Device Remember theres acouple updates so Be Patient and Enjoy

Pros: Ethenet cable= 4K movies no buffering easy 1080p HD

    Gets into apps alittle quicker.

    Its Smaller.

Does not heat up as bad as fire stick does.

    Search internet faster.

Under a hundred $100 gets me into my apps faster/plays 4k movies and 1080p easy no glitches no buffering/ faster internet searches on firefox/Downloader app works wonders for you!

Cons: has apps that cause viruses beware

Seriously amazon you couldnt made a small Ethernet Port onto the device??? Sorry folks yes you have to buy a seperate ethernet compatible plug for ethernet ability, to me thats bottle necking shame on you amazon but of course i payed for it from amazon itll say also recommend blah blah proceed to check lol.

Hdmi flat cord is only like 3inch long realy? Oh guess what yup you have to buy an extention for that too seriouly amazon hey atleast you will be prepaired for future devices lol.

They made the device backwards it should be faced up with amazon logo facing up but no i have to twist it around to face it up the hdmi cord plugs in the right way but the device face is facing down on my tv stand flat lmao so if its flat on your tv stand it will be facing upside down...didnt put to much thought into making this one did you. Atleast the power cord is long.

Id wait for the next fire tv generation they might do better on that one.

People can just use there old fire sticks for ethernet cable and be done with it... good luck hope this helps god speed happy streaming!

This is my second FireTV but my third AmazonTV device. I originally purchased a Fire Stick for my main TV and decided to get a FireTV and use the FireStick in another room (which is now in use with even a different TV). I read several reviews stating the FireTV was better so I decided to get the FireTV and move the FireStick to another room but it is father from the router. I would get a weak Wi-Fi signal message with the FireStick sometimes so I moved it to a room closer to the router and no longer have that problem. When I got a 4K Ultra HD TV, I wanted the updated FireTV for the 4K Ultra HD television. I thought the new FireTV with 4K Ultra HD might be more compatible with the new television. My new television provides access to apps for Amazon Video and Netflix as well as others but it does not provide all the apps access that I am able to get with the FireTV. For example, I could not access my AcornTV app on the new television but I knew I could with the FireTV. I don’t have my subscription with AcornTV through Amazon. I have a FireTV installed now in that room that is farther from the router and so far, it has worked without incident and I am very pleased. Now you know why I have 3 Amazon devices and I can tell you, I am happy with all 3. All the devices were easy to install, simple to set up and the operation is intuitive. The voice access, Alexa, is really great when I am struggling to find a particular movie/video right away. The response to a request is very quick. I have not used Alexa for shopping. Maybe later. I have only one complaint and that is the battery access, which is the same on all 3 remotes. I do wish they would improve on it. Until you get the hang of sliding the cover off, it is awkward and frustrating. You must pay attentions to the arrows. I had to change the batteries on this new remote immediately. Obviously, the ones that came with the unit were exhausted and the remote would not work initially. I thought I had installed something incorrectly but remembered the caveat about possibly needing to change the batteries, so I did. Then it worked fine. However, when I was changing the batteries, I remember thinking ---why can’t they make this easier. Other than that, I am still happy with all 3 devices. Would I buy another FireTV if I needed it? Absolutely.

This is not a fire Tv replacement as I was told when I called customer support to replace my old fire TV that died.

No ethernet input port, it only works on wifi, not direct wired, so I can not use it because I only use wired connections.

No usb port for more storage. READ BELOW FOR MY CUSTOMER SERVICE ODYSSEY

Customer support on this matter is non existent. The upper level support wants to hide behind their off shore personnel, who are nice and want to be helpful, but have no answers to easy questions that only the upper level support knows. Examples of those questions which I have not been able to get any answers.

They claim to offer an ethernet dongle to solve my problem, but does this dongle just generates its own wifi signal, and got no answer!!!!

Can this new fire device they have mis named a fire TV instead of a fire stick receive the gigabyte ethernet signal from my TV which is also wired to my network? No answers after over an hour on the phone waiting for the off shore people to talk to the person I want to talk to to get some real answers. Just talked to an off shore supervisor and he now says he can transfer me to a fire tv tech support person in the USA. Now on indefinite hold again.

Finally got connected to a fire TV tech in the USA. I less than 5 minutes got all my answers and was still not satisfied with the resolution. Here is the scoop!

No the new Fire device can not receive a signal from the ethernet cable on my TV

The ethernet dongle does not generate a wi fi signal, it is a device that connects to the New Fire Device ( I still refuse to all it a Fire TV and will explain why below) through the power connection on the Fire Device. It has its own power input that you connect the Fire Device power transformer to and another input for an ethernet cable, BUT IT IS NOT A GIGABIT Ethernet it is only 10/100. Really??? This new device is to stream 4K content from my Gigabit wired network thru this bottleneck that is 100 times slower. MAKES NO SENSE.

This dongle is a bandaid for a bad design. I would love to talk to the brainchild of this new Fire device. I am not only a very satisfied user of the old fire TV devices, I install entertainment systems for a living and have recommended them to many customers.

The fire stick, just like the chrome stick and roku stick have a very large market for the average users. The fire TV was an upgrade offering wired connections for wired homes, and for serious AV enthusiasts, and geeks who wanted to add apps not supported by amazon, and anyone who wanted to add storage via the USB input.

This New Device and its advertising should read, WE HAVE ABANDONED THE FIRE TV, and now only offer this new Fire Stick on Steroids. As for those of you that still want a device that has the old functionality of the original Fire TV, we don't want your business. Please go elsewhere and do not bother us. Guess what, I will!

more info about this new fire TV device. It has been two weeks now and the ethernet adapter is not yet left the warehouse or been produced so this device is still unusable to me.

I got on the amazon TV forum and any one thinking of buying one of these new devices should know that it will only work with your TV all users who have home entertainment systems with surround speakers have no access to their speakers, particularly the center channel. Suggest you go to their forums and see for yourself before you buy.

Seems pretty obvious this product is not ready for delivery to the public. I am astonished that this is happening with an amazon product. I have held them in high regard for a very long time. This and their completely horrible off shore customer service for this device is making worry that the amazon i thought was a model company is following in the footsteps of Del and other big corp who no longer value their customers time or intelligence, Shame on you amazon.

Another one of my 2nd gen fine sticks is frozen and I can not even get support to understand it is not the one that went out three seeks ago. this one I paid for extended warrantee, and have no idea what they are going to do since I can even talk to anyone who understands.
