Build-With-AI Q&A: Building a Storefront with v0, Lovable, Replit, and Manus

Hi everyone,

Shopify just changed how a store gets built.

You describe your business and products in plain language, an AI tool builds the storefront, and Shopify runs checkout, payments, and the rest of the commerce engine underneath. No theme to pick. No template to fight.

It launched with native integrations for four AI builders: v0, Lovable, Replit, and Manus.

You can check my walkthrough of how this looks like end to end here.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions around whether this is actually useful, whether it replaces themes, if it’s safe for existing stores, and what merchants should be paying attention to.

So I wanted to round up the most common questions in one place.

Drop your questions below, tell me which builder you’re testing, or show off what you’ve built!

FAQ

  1. What actually launched here?

Shopify launched native integrations with four AI app builders: v0 by Vercel, Lovable, Replit, and Manus.

  1. So the AI builds my whole store? What does Shopify actually do then?

The AI builder owns the storefront layer. Design, layout, copy, the look and feel a customer sees. Shopify owns the commerce engine underneath. Products, inventory, checkout, payments, taxes, shipping, customer data, and your admin dashboard.

  1. Do I need to know how to code?

Not at all. You can see in the video how easy it is engineering a single prompt. The whole point is that you describe what you want in plain language and the AI builds it!

  1. Does this replace Shopify themes?

I wouldn’t think of this as “themes are dead.”, but I do certainly see it heading that way.

Themes are templates. You pick one, customize within its guardrails, and you’re working inside a structure someone else designed. These AI builders generate something custom from a description, so you’re not boxed into a template’s layout or limitations.

  1. Can I connect a store I already have?

Yes, but the setup can vary by tool. These integrations support creating a brand-new Shopify store or connecting an existing one.

If you already have a live store I would not connect an AI builder and start making changes blindly. Test on a duplicate theme, a dev store, or a small page first.

  1. Is my store and customer data safe with these tools?

The tools connect with permissions you set, and you can change or revoke access from your admin anytime.

The sensitive stuff, checkout and payment data, is always processed by Shopify directly, not the AI tool. So a builder can shape your storefront without ever touching customer payment info.

  1. Which tool should merchants use?

Use whichever one you’re comfortable with, or test the same prompt across all four and pick the one you like best.

My rough take:

  • v0 is probably best if you want a clean modern front-end or landing page.

  • Lovable is strong if you want to describe a full app/site flow in plain English.

  • Replit makes sense if you’re doing something more technical or full-stack.

  • Manus is interesting if you want more of an agentic workflow where the tool is doing more of the planning and execution.

Which builder are you testing, and what are you trying to build with it? Drop it below.

It says AI generation storefront is not available. It says it is still rolling out. I am in the Asia region, is it the same in the states?
